The film opens with shots of children in the playground at Harlescott Grange Junior School in Shrewsbury. In a classroom we see examples of work that has been created using the environment as the inspiration. The film then follows a group of fourth year pupils on a field trip to Pontesford Hill on the Earl’s Hill Nature Reserve to the west of Shrewsbury. We see the pupils examining trees, plants and rocks, making notes and sound recordings, doing drawings, making a plaster cast and collecting samples for study back in the classroom. A commentary describes their activities. Back in the school we see the children using various art, science, England and maths skills to record the results of their study.
