We open with a puppet in front of a curtain followed by the family emerging. The guests are welcomed and take off their coats before we see the people assembling on the stairs and walking into the dining room wearing evening dress and party hats. Around a large table the guests read cards (inter-titles give their party names and ‘titles’). After the speeches Christmas pudding is served. We then see the cook and other domestic staff eating their meal around a smaller table. A horse shoe and other wooden cut out figures are shown before we see the guests posing for the camera individually (the film maker uses dissolves). Next there is a film screening (a cartoon is projected but the audience are not seen) and finally in a large wood panelled room the guests dance and then join hands to sing Auld Lang Syne.
