Description

The film opens with shots of the filmmaker's wife, Evelyn Doncaster, and an older couple in the garden of the family home at Longmoor Lane. We then see a man in a flat cap and waistcoat in a quarry laying an explosive charge. We see him standing on top of a large rock, measuring a fuse and dropping a long stick into a hole to check the depth. After pushing the explosive down with a stick he lights the fuse. This is followed by a long shot of the rock and after several seconds wait we see the side of the rock collapse. The following sequence shows the Doncaster family on holiday in North Norfolk. We see an unidentified woman come through the revolving door of the Sheringham Hotel, followed by a shot of Keith, the filmmaker’s son and Evelyn, his wife, coming through the same door. We then see views of a small boat being hauled up onto a beach. We also see two women and a man standing on the promenade. After a single shot showing crabs in a box, we then see the family clambering over rocks on the shore. We then see Evelyn in the garden of the family home at Longmoor Lane in Sandiacre with another woman and a white-haired man. These may be the Steymores. We see Evelyn and the woman getting into a car. We then see the couple and Evelyn’s father, Mr Fell, looking at flowers in a garden.

Notes

The quarry was identified by the filmmaker simply as 'Sandhole' and no further details are available as to its location. The "Sheringham Hotel" in Sheringham is still extant, but has now been coverted into flats.
