Description

The reel opens with views of a large steel framed building being erected at Hereford Cattle Market by F.H. Dale and shots of builders at work. This is followed by views of farmers in the market and livestock in pens. Following this we see shots of Hereford cattle being led around a ring and paraded on the pitch at the Edgar Street football ground (home of Hereford United). We then see views of the mayor of Hereford C.J. Gooding unveiling a plaque at an event to celebrate both the opening of the new extension and the centenary of the market itself on 17 October 1956. We then see a section that shows a meeting inside a room where Enoch Powell MP is glimpsed making a speech. The final market section shows colour views of Hereford cattle being led through the city centre and then into pens in the new market extension. The reel ends with views of cattle in a field and turkeys at the Dale family home at Eyton near Leominster.
