Description

The programme is introduced in the studio by Mike Prince. Prince begins by talking to Andy Lowe of Christian Solidarity International (CSI) about the organisation’s work in highlighting the plight of persecuted Christians around the world. To raise awareness of the charity Rob Giles and Phil Cartwright are to walk the twenty peaks of Snowdonia and hold a prayer vigil. Both are in the studio with their walking gear and Prince talks to Rob Giles.

Next in the studio Nick Meanwell interviews Grace Wyatt who was recently awarded the British Empire Medal (a still is shown) for her work at the Charnwood Centre, a school for children with disabilities in Cheshire. A film of children and teachers at the school is also shown (You Can’t Cry Forever - Granada Television). Wyatt talks about the aims of the school, its funding and her recently published book.

Next on film we visit the Foleshill Family Centre in Coventry. The centre runs a group for local Asian women to meet and discuss issues. There are interviews with Sushila Kalia, Mrs Dharambir and Sister Daphne Bronkhurst who is from the Roman Catholic Franciscan Missionary of Mary. They talk about the variety of religions and languages used at the centre.

Back in the studio Sushila Kalia from the film report talks to Jill Fraser about the Panahghar project run at Foleshill (it is an Urdu word meaning home) that is aimed at Asian women who feel isolated with their own families and women who may be victims of domestic violence.

Mike Prince then leads into a film item about ‘Night Light’, a recent evening festival of Christian music held at Alton Towers in Staffordshire. We see views of the (small) crowd at the festival and shots taken from the cable cars. Performers seen (and captioned) are: Zero Option (who perform Happy to be Here); Bryn Haworth (Mountain Mover); mime artist Geoffrey Stevenson; and John Pantry (All things work for good). Nick Meanwell talks to organiser Robert Wildgoose about the event.

Finally in the studio Jill Fraser is presented with flowers by her fellow presenters and today’s guests to celebrate her forthcoming marriage.
