Description

Programme introduced by Tony Francis. In the first film report Francis meets 17-year-old Rhonda Mewis from Leicester who is one of a growing number of girls, according to the commentary, 'having babies out of boredom'. She’s found that pregnancy has helped her use the system to gain a council house and priority with the DHSS. We see Rhonda with her baby pegging out washing, shopping in Tesco and at home changing his nappy. Francis also talks to youth worker Babs Furness who confirms that the numbers of illegitimate births is on the increase. We see young mothers Tina and Georgina visiting the Wyvern Centre and chatting to Babs about their pregnancies.

Back in the studio, the clinical psychologist Dr Graham Stokes and the Conservative MP for South Derbyshire Edwina Currie discuss the issues with Tony Francis.

In the second report we meet 16-year-old dancer Maria Forman who is on the first rung of the showbiz ladder with a summer season at Skegness with Tommy Trinder. We first meet Maria walking through the funfair at Skegness. She is interviewed about her hopes of becoming a professional dancer and we see her in training at the Janice Sutton School of Dance. We then see her in the dressing room at the Embassy Theatre and rehearsing for her show under the supervision of director Bryan Johnson. Finally we see a section of the show including an introduction from compere Tommy Trinder.
