Programme presented by Tony Francis. In a film report Francis meets Barbara Stilwell who works as a nurse practitioner at Balsall Heath in Birmingham. She is not as qualified as a doctor but performs many of the same duties as a local GP. We see her on her rounds making house calls in Balsall Heath and she is interviewed about her role and her relationship with patients. We also hear from Doctor Anthony Bird who runs the surgery where she is employed.
Back in the studio Francis chairs a debate between Doctor Robin Hull, clinical tutor at Birmingham University, and Doctor John Ball of the British Medical Association about the idea.
In a second film report Francis profiles Peter Hugo from Cleeve Prior in Worcestershire who is a former car dealer now making a living as a professional Prince Charles impersonator. Hugo is seen driving around his village, watching the real prince on television to perfect his act and making a public appearance in character at a Kenning car dealership in Walsall.
