We open with letters complaining about the distracting noises during recent Central Post programmes. The electronic background is removed and Wendy reveals that she presents the show from the newsroom of Central News in Birmingham hence the noise of journalists and phones ringing. We continue with letters critical of the quantity of American made programming on Central. Many viewers think there are too many US imports (stills from various American and British programmes are shown). In the studio, Wendy talks to Dorothy Hobson who is a media researcher at Birmingham University about the issue and suggestions that viewers copy so called Americanisms.
We continue with comments on the series 'The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole'. Opinion is divided with some viewers thinking the programme is 'childish'. Stills of the stars are shown followed by an extract from tonight's episode (Thames Television). Finally there are letters in relation to a recent Central News story about the Barks family from Wood End in Coventry who are living in poverty and are the subject of a Church of England Children's Society poster campaign. Most of the letters to the programme offer no sympathy to the family and make suggestions about how they might better cope on their benefit payments.
The tape also includes the opening and closing for the Nottingham edition of the programme which features a different postal address.
