Due to the privatisation of the power sector jobs are being lost at Blidworth, Gedling, Rawdon and Donisthorpe collieries. Shots of bulldozers clearing the site at the closed Whitwick Colliery in Leicestershire. Library shots of miners. Mike talks to former miners about their redundancy payments. Roy Horrobin who used to work at Whitwick Colliery said that he wished he had tried to find another job rather than take the £19,000 redundancy payment. Joey Fowkes who used to work at Rawdon Colliery has had more luck and is now running a successful paving slab business. He talks about his expanding business.
