Programme presented by Jon Lander. The first film report by Mark Astaire looks at the problems faced by young unemployed people in Wolverhampton. We begin with vox pops in which young people describe their lifestyles without work. Interview with sociologist, Dr Paul Willis who has written a report about the problem. He talks about new social groups that have been created by unemployment. We see high angle shots of Wolverhampton town centre before we meet unemployed single parent Veronica Brown who talks about her situation. We then see inside the Saints youth club where young job seekers go to socialise and learn new skills. Tony Vidal is interviewed the club and we see a shopping street in Wolverhampton. Next in the studio Reg Harcourt interviews the leader of the Labour Party, Neil Kinnock. Subjects discussed include the forthcoming Brecon by-election, trade unions and mass unemployment. The next report is the first in a new series in which non-politicians have their say. This week the environmentalist Phil Drabble talks about the increasing interest in managing our countryside and the problems posed by over farming and the policies of the Ministry of Agriculture. Drabble reports from his own nature reserve at Abbots Bromley in Staffordshire. We see him working his land and also see shots of nesting herons and badgers (Drabble is critical of the Government plan to cull the animals).
