Programme presented by Jon Lander. The first item is a Reg Harcourt studio interview with the Conservative MP for Worcester and Energy Minister, Peter Walker who has been tipped as the next leader of the Tory party. The item starts with a film clip of Walker. Subjects covered include the recent miners strike. Next on film Mark Astaire looks at the growing ecology movement. Interview with Jonathon Porritt, the Director of Friends of the Earth. We then see examples of green literature and posters and see the Friends of the Earth offices at Digbeth in Birmingham including a recycled paper service and household insulation being installed. There are interviews with Peter Gorbing from Friends of the Earth, Dr Marcus Lynch of West Midlands CND and David Davies of the cycling group ‘Pushbikes’ who all share the Birmingham office. We also see the interior of a health food shop and see Porritt at a press conference talking about dangerous pesticides. Finally on film the Labour MP for Wolverhampton South East, Bob Edwards is interviewed about meeting the Soviet politicians Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky. Edwards first went to the Soviet Union in 1926 and then made a subsequent visit in the late 1930s. We see archive film clips of Stalin, Trotsky, the Bolshoi theatre and a May Day parade in Moscow. There is also a library shot of a recent Militant conference where the image of Trotsky was visible.
