Description

The film opens with shots of BRM testing a new four wheel drive car at Snetterton with driver Richie Ginther and Chief Engineer Tony Rudd.

Next at the European Grand Prix at Brands Hatch we see pit activity with BRM driver Graham Hill talking to team-mate Richard Attwood who drove the four wheel drive car in practise but it was withdrawn before the race. We also see drivers Jim Clark and Bruce McLaren in the pits. The race starts and there is a close battle between Hill and Clark (Lotus) with Clark narrowly winning. After the race Hill is seen chatting to Stirling Moss.

Continuing with the Monaco Grand Prix we see pre-race activities including the singer Adam Faith in an amphibious 'Amphicar' in the marina, Hill chatting to Ginther and Hill's wife, Bette Hill talking to Innes Ireland. We see scenes from the race with Hill winning and Ginther finishing second.

Next at the Austrian Grand Prix at Zeltweg we see shots of the race which is won by Lorenzo Bandini in a Ferrari with Ginther second (Hill retires early). The next sequence shows drag racing at Blackbushe in Surrey sponsored by Sydney Allard with journalist Denis Jenkinson and driver Don Garlits present. Rubery Owen manufacture the Shorrock supercharger used by some of the cars.

We then cut to views of Mexico City including local shanty towns. The final race of the season is held in the city with Hill leading the championship. We see drivers in the pits prior to the start and scenes from the race with Jim Clark taking the lead. The American film director John Frankenheimer is seen watching the race. Hill is seen getting out of his car in the pits after a small accident on the circuit. Clark also retires with Dan Gurney winning the race and John Surtees the championship. The final section shows research and development fatigue testing of BRM wheels by Rubery Owen with director of research Peter Spear supervising and stress analysis of the racing car body. Finally we mix from a shot of a 1950s V16 BRM to the experimental four wheel drive 1964 car to show the on-going development of the sport.
