Description

The film opens with establishing shots of the Rubery Owen factory at Darlaston and managers Alfred Owen and his brother Ernest Owen. Inside the factory we see axles and wheels being manufactured followed by views of traffic on a road as the commentary talks about the Rubury Owen structural steel used in the road construction. Rubery Owen also operate a grand prix motor racing team and we then cut to Monte Carlo and see the BRM cars in the pit lane with team manager Tony Rudd and drivers Graham Hill and Richie Ginther and Vic Barlow of Dunlop. We also see the rival Lotus team (with team manager Colin Chapman and drivers Jim Clark and Trevor Taylor) and the Ferrari cars. The film follows events in the race with the BRM cars battling with Clark's Lotus and a Ferrari driven by John Surtees. Eventually Clark retires and Hill leads a BRM one - two. After the finish we see Tony Rudd with the cup and Hill with his wife Bette. Next at the Le Mans 24 hour race in France we see pit-lane preparations on the experimental Rover BRM gas turbine car with team manager Wilkie Wilkinson. Peter Spear, director of research at Rubery Owen describes the car. We see the start of the race and the Rover-BRM leaving 30 seconds after the main field due to its non-regulation design. We see various stages in the race including night driving and shots of drivers Hill and Ginther in the pit lane and pit stops. Ferrari fill the first six places and we see the Rover-BRM at the finish.
