Description

We see crowds at a football match (Chelsea) and a dog racing track and views of teenage teddy boys standing on a street corner (what boys might do if they're not in the brigade) which cuts to a poster for a Boys Brigade training camp open day at Lilleshall (23 August 1958). We then see a Boys Brigade street parade (taking place at Enfield) followed by views of the summer camp at Lilleshall in Shropshire. Boys are taught cricket by David Sheppard and are seen practising fencing and physical training. We also see the boys dining outside and reading the organisation's magazine 'Steadfast'. There is also a project to build a canoe as well as lessons in archery, judo and athletics. The mountaineer Sir John Hunt gives a climbing lecture which cuts to an extract from Gaumont British News showing Hunt leading a group of boys from the camp on a climbing expedition. Back at the camp we see events at the open day including visits by the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire Viscount Bridgeman and Alfred Owen of Rubery Owen, a marching band, parade and outdoor prayers. We then see demonstrations of various sports including a football match. The film ends with more shots of the street parade (at Enfield).
