The film opens with a light aircraft on the tarmac at Wolverhampton Airport. A car arrives at the Tractor Spares Ltd factory at Willenhall. An employee of the factory then takes the wife of the visitor on a tour of some of the historical landmarks of the West Midlands in a veteran 1909 Briton car which was made by a predecessor of the current firm. A commentary is provided giving historical details. We see the car passing: St Peter’s church in Wolverhampton, the Royal School in the town and antique industrial scraper once operated by the contractor J.B. Carr. Next we see the Briton car outside the Manor House in West Bromwich, driving through the grounds of Dudley Castle, passing Wightwick Manor, Boscobel House and stopping at White Ladies Priory.
The tour pauses next at Tong Church where the woman is shown the reputed grave of Little Nell followed by a stop at Baker’s Nursery at Boningale in Shropshire to admire the lupin flowers. Next at Ironbridge we see views of Abraham Darby’s bridge followed by Buildwas Abbey and then views of the River Severn from Hermitage Hill. Next at Bridgnorth we see the River Severn, the cliff railway in operation, remains of the castle and we drive along the High Street approaching the Town Hall. This is followed by views of Coton Hall, Wenlock Abbey, Ludlow Castle and then a shot of the Briton car arriving at the Feathers Inn in Ludlow.
Establishing shots of Stokesay Castle, Steventon Manor and Walcot Hall, once the home of Clive of India, follow before we see another arrival, this time at Whittington Inn near Kidderminster. The tour continues with views of the Chateau Impney at Droitwich Spa, Cannock Chase, the gardens at Alton Towers and Stratford upon Avon where we see the William Shakespeare birthplace house and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage followed by Harvard House and then the Saxon Mill at Guys Cliffe near Warwick. Back at the Tractor Spares factory the film ends with examples of the firm’s experimental work in testing metals, various forms of quality control, the assembly of components and then views and descriptions of the firm’s methods in hardening steel products. The visitors return to Wolverhampton Airport and the film ends with shots of the Tractor Spares catalogue being leafed through.
