Description

This film of events from 1933 is punctuated with intertitles. It begins with "Carnival - Henley in Arden" and initally focuses on the crowning of the carnival queen. This is followed by shots of the carnival procession including numerous floats and the Redditch Charity Band.
Next is a record of a trip to Paris including a selection of sights: Eiffel Tower, Cleopatra's Needle, Champs Elysees, Notre Dame, L'Opera. Elements of the return journey to England are included featuring a passing train, leaving France by ship, the White Cliffs of Dover from the ship and then disembarking.
Focus then shifts to a holiday in Brighton. Entitled "Brighton Beach or "Spoiled Lives" a Tragedy" two young women are sunbathing on Brighton beach when one of them sprinkles pebbles on the others back. A play fight ensues. We then see others in the family group on the beach at Brighton.
Next is a record of a public open day at the family home of Austy Manor at Wootton Wawen in Warwickshire on September 20th 1933. It begins with visitors arriving in cars and a bus and travelling up the access road. They are greeted at the entrance to the house and are then seen in the maze on the estate, in the Japanese garden complete with a model of Mount Fuji and then enjoying tea. It ends with pigs looking out over stable doors.
Focus then shifts to London where the university boat race of 1933 is recorded from Mortlake. Before the boats arrive we see crowds gathering, a souvenir seller and a Handley Page Hannibal biplane passing overhead. The boats then come into sight under Barnes Railway Bridge and passing the camera.
The compilation ends with a section titled "The Colmore Car Trial". We see drivers taking part in the Colmore Trophy hillclimb which took place on 24 February. The main focus of the footage is on the Station Lane Hill climb at Chalford in Gloucestershire on which we see cars ascending as well spectators helping when cars get stuck.
