Description

At the Warrington works of Rubery Owen we see views of the yard showing metal castings ready for various assemblies. The first product shown in detail being manufactured on the shop floor is an industrial lathe sold under the Harrison brand. After assembly we see a lorry transporting a crated Harrison lathe to Liverpool docks. The lorry uses an Eaton two speed axle which is illustrated with a short animation. We then see views of the manufacture of the axle and various lorries on the road that use the component as the commentary describes its advantage over a conventional axle. Next we see the Barber-Greene bucket loader with built in conveyor belt and the assembly and use of the Barber-Greene road finisher to lay tarmac. The Barber-Greene trench digging machine is also shown in operation. In the firm's fabrication department we see salt storage hoppers being built followed by views of the design department, works chaplain, first aid room with sun ray treatment for workers and finally a works concert party entertaining staff.

The main casing of the Eaton lorry axle was made at the firm's Darlaston works with gears coming from E.N.V. of Willesden. Barber-Greene was an American product made under licence.
