Description

Exterior Rubery Owen factory at Darlaston and shot of chairman Alfred Owen. View inside factory showing axles and wheels being manufactured for the motor industry and a road that uses Rubery Owen structural steel. We then see the debut of the new V8 powered BRM racing car at the 1962 non championship Brussels Grand Prix held at Heysel Park. The race on a tricky narrow track in damp conditions is won by BRM driver Graham Hill. Next on Easter Monday 1962 we visit Goodwood in West Sussex where Hill again wins. Prior to the race Hill is seen chatting to Stirling Moss who suffers a series crash in the race (not seen). Hill is next seen winning at the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. We then visit the Monaco Grand Prix where an opening lap crash ends the race for BRM driver Richie Ginther and Bruce McLaren goes on to win the race driving a Cooper. At the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa with see the race including the aftermath of a serious crash for Willy Mairesse and Trevor Taylor. Next at a motor museum at Cleres in France we see Hill attempting to ride a Penny Farthing and driving a veteran car. The final race of the 1962 season is in South Africa and we see drivers Jim Clark and Hill prior to the race and views of the action on the track. Clark retires and Hill goes on to win the race and the championship. We then see events at the 1963 Monaco Grand Prix with Hill winning. On to 1964 we see the BRM team with Richie Ginther testing a new four wheel drive car at Snetterton and research and development work on racing car bodies. This is followed by the European Grand Prix at Brands Hatch which is narrowly won by Clark in a Lotus from Hill and then the 1964 Monaco Grand Prix which Hill again wins. The remainder of the season is illustrated with scenes from the Austrian Grand Prix at Zeltweg and the final race at Mexico City. Hill has a minor accident in Mexico with Dan Gurney winning the race and John Surtees the championship. We continue with the 1965 Monaco Grand Prix with Hill and new team mate Jackie Stewart. Hill again wins. Next we see races from the 1966 Tasman series with Hill winning the New Zealand Grand Prix at Pukekhoe and Richard Attwood winning at Levin also in a BRM. Stewart is also seen winning a race in New Zealand before the cars are transported to Australia for the next leg of the series at Warwick Farm which is won by Jim Clark in a Lotus. Hill returns to the series at the Australian Grand Prix at Lakeside which he wins. We also see shots of the Rubery Owen and Kemsley Ltd factory at Adelaide followed by a final race at Sandown which is won by Jackie Stewart who also takes the Tasman championship. We then see views of the harbour at Hong Kong followed by stills of Princess Margaret looking at the Tasman winning BRM at a show in Hong Kong held for Business week.
