We open with shots of people leaving a church at Meanwood in Leeds following Bill's Christening in 1936. We then have a selection of b/w and colour shots of his early years filmed in the garden of his grandparents' home at Meanwood and the family home in Retford. There are several holidays with views of beaches in Norfolk and many garden scenes with Bill toddling and playing with a beach ball and sometimes other children. B/w shots show boating at Meanwood as the family sit in the sunshine. There are colour shots from around 1939 showing Bill and a little girl on a beach with buckets and shots of the girl riding a donkey. As Bill gets older he is seen riding a tricycle in the garden and with friends climbing out of a playpen. Bill is briefly seen in a garden playing with a toy tank and then with a puppy and go-kart (we are now later c1946).
We then see early post-war shots of Bill with other children in the outdoor swimming pool of St Hugh's School at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire. This is followed by a trip to North Wales with views of countryside with Harlech Castle in the distance. We also see school football and sports day at St Hugh's and further shots of the outdoor pool. Bill and a friend walk along a lane and pick up conkers. We then see arrivals at two weddings. The first is at St Swithan's Church in Retford and the second is St Mathew's Church at Chapel Allerton in Leeds. This second wedding is Eric Turner and Gwendolyn Metcalf and took place in February 1948.
We continue with c1948 shots of Bill on holiday in Skegness with a friend. The boys are seen in a rowing boat and then on the motorised bumper boats. We also see a parade passing the Lion Hotel in Skegness.
