Description

The film focuses on the importance of the ditches and dykes of the Fens and their centrality in preventing serious flooding. Water from the Midlands and Cambridgeshire drains into the Fens via the rivers Witham, Welland, Nene and Great Ouse and out to sea via The Wash.

We see work underway to dig ditches and dykes; farming areas in Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire; flooded areas; a traditional Fenland punt gunner; and the gates of the Denver sluice on the Great Ouse being operated.
