Description

The film is a detailed study of war production at Raleigh. We see views of the Raleigh factory and the head office on Lenton Boulevard including the statue to Sir Walter Raleigh inside. Managing Director George Wilson and Chairman Harold Bowden are seen at board meeting discussing the change to wartime production. We then see the manufacture of various components in the factory including fuses and cartridge cases. The firm's usual work also continues with the development of a folding bicycle for commando use. All aspects of factory life are depicted from the shop floor machinists to the civil defence volunteers, despatch department, office staff and sports activities. We also visit the firm's convalescent home at Sutton on Sea in Lincolnshire. The end of the war is celebrated with a victory ball at the Raleigh ballroom which includes a speech from George Wilson. Finally we see the factory return to its peace time role with the manufacture and assembly of a new bicycle.
