Description

We see the riverboat "Empress" loaded with smartly dressed passengers (including Alderman Atkey - Chairman of the Trent Navigation Committee and Lt. Colonol Raynor - City Engineer) approaching the ceremonial tape and Doctor Macnamara cutting it. We then see the lock gates clsosing and men turning the wheels which control the mechanism, followed by the boat entering the lock.
