We see a small crowd gathered outside the Land Travel Exchange and the arrival by car of the Lord Mayor (Alderman Wigman) and various other local officials, including Mr T J Owen (the Town Clerk), the Lord Lieutenant (the Duke of Portland) ands the Chairman of the County Council (Alderman Bayliss). We then see the Lord Mayor introducing the Lord Lieutenant from a platform inside the exchange and part of his speech, followed by shots of some of the exhibits on display, including a model of a jet engine. We then see tableaux depicting various sports and a man giving an artistic demonstration (possibly from another exhibition).
We then cut to a lamppost bearing signs to a Book Exhibition and a History Exhibition followed by a shot of doors opening onto the exhibition itself at the Guildhall. We see various displays, including old books and a cermonial mace.
We then see people entering the Schools Exhibition at the People's College and displays including clothing and children's artwork. We next see a poster advertising "Nottinghamshire Art Through the Ages" at Nottingham Castle and see shots inside the cancel of various works of art, including paintings and sculpture.
The next shot shows the exterior of Chapel Bar Art Gallery advertising a free exhibition "Our Region 1951". We also see a poster advertising a Film Festival - "The History of British Film" - at the YMCA Hall.
We then see more posters (possibly part of another exhibition) and table displays by various local clubs and societies including the Chess and Draughts Club and the Cercle Français. We then see shots of a Book Exhibition at the Central Library.
The following scenes come from the "Nottingham's Own Trades Exhibition and Fashion Festival, including machine knitting and sewing demonstrations and a large display of Nottingham Lace. There is also a display by Players Cigarettes and a catwalk show.
We then see scenes from a pageant at the Castle, including dancing and a parade of girls and young women dressed as queens. We also see a floral display outside the Council House and a military band playing in the Old Market Square.
This is followed by shots of various entries in the shop window display competition, including Skinner and Rook, displays of women's clothing with a festival theme and scenes showing evening entertainment including scenes from the Knights of the Burning Pestle and the Lanchester Marionettes. There is also a fencing display, a sword fight and a Scottish Sword Dance.
Next we see seens from a fair with local officials enjoying the rides and sideshows. We then see nightime shots of Wollaton Hall and Park, people clambering aboard an RAF aircraft and the outside of a Fire Safety display. A further dancing display is followed by shots of a firework disply and the film concludes with scenes of the closing ceremony in which the Lord Mayor lowers the Festival flag.
