Description

[opening of film is missing]

A group of workers from the Derby factory are seen at the works cinema (screening 'Merely The Trimmings - another film made by Ernest Turner Group). We also see the group's managing director Alan Turner shooting a film.

The next section covers the activities of the Derby based 'Alan Turner Opera Company'. Posters advertise their productions and we see workers practising tap and ballet steps. We then see an exterior shot of the Grand Theatre in Derby (on Babbington Lane) and a trolley bus passing. Inside there are several shots of a performance of '1001 Nights' including a chorus line wearing brief costumes.

The next section shows a works band practising (at Factory 2, which was High Wycombe) followed by staff dancing and performing a stage show (with ventriloquist) at Factory 4 (Derby).

The film continues with shots of the amateur radio club and ambulance service operated from High Wycombe and the various sports facilities offered at the High Wycombe factory (Chiltern Works) as well as a sports day which includes visitors from Derby (and a tug-of-war between factories).

The film ends with a montage of work and leisure with a quote from the 'Workers Charter' and references to Pope Leo XIII.
