Description

The film uses intertitles. "New books are exciting". We see a librarian unpacking books. "But when books reach libraries and schools they find that girls will be girls and boys will be boys". We see a Shropshire County Council mobile library visiting a school, and children looking at books. A group of boys mess about with a book which falls apart. "To make books paper is folded. The folded sections are sewn over tapes and glued to the book cases". Stop motion is used to demonstrate how a book is held together. "Books are costly." A woman buys a book in a shop. "You must protect them from babies with pencils." A toddler writes on a book. "You must protect them from dirty hands." A boy with dirty hands. "You must protect them from water". A book floating in an outdoor trough. "You must protect them from rain and snow." We see the exterior of a branch library (in Market Drayton). "Always treat books with care and they will be your friends for life".
