The opening section shows the Paxman powered Ross Daring trawler being launched at Selby in Yorkshire. We then see the trawler (which is based at Grimsby) being used at sea. After a still showing the Methane Princess ship we see a map of a new gas pipeline that links Canvey Island with the north of England via Coleshill. We then see Paxman engines being installed at the Canvey Island pumping station of British Gas and also views of a new gas reforming plant at Hitchin in Hertfordshire. Next we see axial compressors that are also used for pumping being assembled at the Lincoln works of Ruston followed by views of the Ruston research centre where the APC engine is seen under test conditions. We then see a completed engine leaving the factory on a low loader (pulled by a Ruston air cooled diesel engined Atkinson lorry). Next we see the Shell Professor of Chemical Engineering Peter Danckwerts opening a new laboratory for Davey Paxman in Colchester. Back in Lincoln we see diesel shunting locomotives being assembled and the final shot shows one of the locos in use by the British Sugar Corporation.
