Description

The film follows student Brian Prosser through typical life at the Shropshire Farm Institute at Walford. We begin with Brian receiving his letter of acceptance. Students are then seen arriving at the college by bus and walking into the main building carrying their suitcases. The students are then welcomed by the Principal R.D. Park at a dinner. The film then shows life at the college including classroom lessons with students sitting at their desks, practical instructions such as vehicle maintenance and forms of livestock management and husbandry. Students are seen adjusting a plough being towed behind a tractor, examining and later shearing sheep, plucking a chicken, learning about hedging, riding behind a seed drill, working with a horse and cart, feeding pigs and working in a milking parlour. Leisure time at the college is also shown with students playing table tennis, darts, cricket and sitting reading in a common room. A group also take a bus into Shrewsbury where they are seen dancing at the Lion Hotel. At the end of the film Brian bids his farewells to staff and leaves on a motorbike.
