Description

View of a diesel multiple unit in station platform at Lincoln. Officials stand on the platform suggesting this is a test or early trip rather than normal service (c1957). Views of British Railways locomotives (including former LNER J20 type) in marshalling yard and on freight duties. Locomotive in depot being oiled and prepared for use and fireman shovelling coal into fire box. Worker emptying ash from locomotive (WD 2-8-0 loco) and coal hopper being used to load another (a B1). We then see freight trains on the main line including a load of tanker wagons. Several shots of diesel locomotives being used in industry follow. This includes a Ruston diesel named Mazda in use at the BTH works at Rugby (early 1950s). We then see a single shot of a train crossing a level crossing in Lincoln and several shots of Ruston diesel locomotives being manoeuvred outside the Ruston and Hornsby factory in Lincoln.

Some of the diesel material (such as the section shot at Rugby) also appears in the film Industrial Shuting: Modern Technique which appears to have been made by the Ruston Film Unit in 1952/3.
