We see two children playing outside a house in Derbyshire. From other films shot by Mr Horrell we know that they are Kay and her brother Thomas (usually Tommie on the films). Tommie plays with a Meccano set and we also see two adults who are probably their mother and grandfather. Intertitle: "Winter Comes To Matlock". We see shots of Mrs Horrell pushing Kay in a pram through a wintry Matlock and long scenes showing fields covered with light snow. Next, Kay and her mother are seen with other women picking daffodils in a field and a lot of shots of Kay in rural Derbyshire.
Kay and her mother are then seen visiting Castleton and we see shots of the village and a poster for Russett Well. Kay and Tommie are then seen with a man and woman throwing sticks and stones into a river and we see a girl with chickens. Next, we see a parade filmed from a high angle through Matlock. Servicemen and women are seen as well as a marching band and various scouts and girl guides. The Horrell family group are next seen playing golf in a field (not on a course). Intertitle: "Evergreen Films Present Movie Montage" (this intertitle is tinted green). We then see Tommie and Kay with their mother in Dovedale including shots of the famous stepping stones.

From another film shot by Mr Horrell we know that Kay was born in January 1940. Judging by her age this film was probably shot starting in the winter of 1941/42. A note found with another reel in the collection dated the Matlock parade to 1945.
