Description

The film begins with a title "Glaston House and family". The opening scenes are in black and white and show the Cottesmore hunt. We see various shots of people on horse back and a pack of hounds running across a grassy track between two hedges. We also see a man and a woman on foot coming out of the bushes and watching the dogs and a horse and cart with a young boy and an older man in it with other men, possibly servants, standing around. This is followed by more shots of the hunt and followers on foot. We next see shots of a man and a woman in a field holding hands and laughing, followed by a shot of the same woman in the garden at Glaston House. We see a man and a woman carrying paddles and then rowing a boat on the pond and an older woman feeding some ducks. We then see the man and woman in the garden, walking through a stable yard and talking to the older woman outside the house. We then see a horse show with competitors show jumping and trotting around the arena. There is also a single shot of a man on a horse (possibly a different location). We then see more shots of the family in the garden and stable yard at Glaston House. The remaining footage is in colour. We see two small boys on horses in the stable yard and being led by a woman (their mother?) and an older man in a flat cap. We then see the older woman gardening and the same boys as before playing ball in the garden. We also see various shots of family members sitting on a bench in the garden and of individual plants. This is followed by shots of the older woman dressed in beekeeping gear tending her hives. We then see more shots of the family in the garden, a younger woman and a man seated in low chairs looking at pictures, the boys playing ball with another man at the front of the house and men picking fruit. Next we see shots of a different house and three women sitting in deck chairs in the garden, they are later joined by a fourth. Back at Glaston Hall, we see three women and a man taking tea outside, followed by more shots of the older woman admiring the garden, joined later by two younger women. We then see a little girl holding a posy of flowers and also in the garden with the older woman and a younger woman with a baby (possibly the little girl’s mother). We then see a young man, presumably the gardener, working in the garden and one of the boys seen earlier pushing a hand cart. The older woman is also seen picking flowers. This is followed by more shots of the family in the garden. We also see the two boys in the stable yard in a jeep-style car, which is then driven out of the gate by a man in a blue cardigan. The film ends with shots of the boys walking by the pond with a man (their father?) who is then seen in a dinghy on the water, putting up the sail. "The End"
