Summary
Lionel Hampden reports on the Hindu festival of Durga Puja taking place at the Shri Geeta Bhawan Mandir temple on Heathfield Road in the Handsworth area of Birmingham.

Description
Durga Puja is a festival dedicated to the Hindu goddess Durga. Establishing shots show the building from the outside and a sign for the centre is displayed. Inside we see music and dance as the women dance in the centre and the men round the outside watch as play on drums. Dr Sen is president of the centre and talks to Lionel Hampden about the festival which is celebrated across India. He stands in front of a statue of the goddess and says that this is the first time the festival has been celebrated in a temple in Britain. He talks about the significance of the goddess’ ten arms, which represent ten gods, holding weapons, which are used to fight the devil. On the fourth day of the festival the devil is thought to be dead and celebration takes place.
