16mm film on metal reels. Moving images have now been around for over 100 years.  They have recorded the way we live and entertained us throughout the 20th century and into the 21st.  Our history is reflected in these images and cultural artefacts and the loss of even a small percentage of them is a loss that we all feel.

This is why MACE is committed to ensuring that the moving image heritage of the Midlands is preserved for future generations to enjoy and study.

We do this in two ways.

Firstly we provide a place where moving images about and from the Midlands can be cared for in the best possible conditions.  Information about what we collect, who deposits material and how we look after material can be found on other pages of the site but you can find out how to deposit moving images on film and tapes with us from here.

Secondly,we offer an information and advice service to people and organisations who would prefer to look after their own material.  We have therefore provided basic details on how to care for your own film and videos which begins with identifying the format(s) that you have, copying them so that they are easier to view and so the originals are safe from further harm and, finally, looking after the original copy.

Hopefully you'll find the answers to your question in these pages but if you do not then please contact James Patterson who will be only too pleased to help.
